Kati tried to find a pet-sitter yesterday so we could do some island exploration on bikes today. The pet-sitter found on Google suggested that we take Bruce along in a pet trailer. Bikes, one with a trailer, were reserved on-line.

This morning, we moved off the mooring (didn't want to pay another $85) and anchored well to the north part of the harbor close to the barrier shore. We then dinghied to the town dock and walked to the bike rental place.

Our bikes were fine and so was the trailer, but Bruce hated it. He barked and complained most of the day. And poor Harry burned a few thousand calories dragging his heavy and completely unappreciative dog-self around.

Great weather for bike exploration...overcast in the 70s. No burning sun, no wind.

We first went from Nantucket center, near the ferry docks (Steamship Wharf), 10 miles along the Polpis Road to Sconset on the far east side of the island. Beautiful little town with rose-covered cottages. We stopped for a half hour hike along the way in a nature preserve area. Bruce got to go off-leash and get his yayas out for the first time since Cuttyhunk. We've been worried about him because he's not eating well, maybe this will help.

Lunch at Sconset, then back along the mid-island Milestone Road toward Nantucket center. Detour to Surfside beach on the south part of the island. Big waves but they break too close to shore for the eager surfers to ride well.

Grocery stop at the Stop & Shop, then return the bikes and back to the boat. Other than traumatizing the dog, a great day with about 25 miles of biking.
