We anchored outside the lobster fleet in Cutler. Dinghyed to the nice town wharf. We had identified 2 nice hikes to do...one in the afternoon 8/27 (Eastern Knubble Trail) and one to do in the morning (Western Head Preserve Trail).

On the way to the Eastern Knubble trailhead, we spoke briefly with a guy at a house right on the harbor.

The hike was beautiful...real coastal Maine stuff... meadow to pine forest to rocky beach and back.

On the way back, we were invited for drinks at the same house on the harbor. We ended up having a great time - 2 beers, about 2 hours - on the deck with the owner, Kristan, the lobsterman who we spoke to earlier, his wife, and a bunch of friends and neighbors. The number of folks on the deck grew while we were there from 6 to 15+. A great Friday happy hour with a fun and friendly bunch.

Kristan sent us off with a quart bag of scallops. He has both a lobster boat and a scallop boat and the commercial wharf behind his house. He's president of the Maine Lobstermen's Association. Awesome!
